DESIRE OF YOUR HEART
Psalms 37:4 4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
What a promise. God loves us so much that when we delight ourselves in His word, He is willing to give us the desires of our heart. To gain the desires of our hearts we must be obedient to God’s word. In other words, don’t look and desire the things of the wicked, but rather the things of the Lord.
So many times, people ask God for something for the wrong reason, then when it doesn’t manifest, they are disappointed. To receive from God, you must understand how the word of God works.
First, we need to remember that God is a spirit, and He mostly works in the spirit realm. When His word says delight yourself also in the Lord and He shall give you the desires of your heart, these desires you have must line up with the plans the Father has for your life as a believer. We need to be that someone who’s heart delights when something is said concerning His goodness and mercy.
God also works in the physical, mental and financial realm. If He didn’t our prayers would not help. There are some who wonder if God hears our prayers. Yes, He does, however like I stated before, they must line up with His word and His plan for your life.
I as a person and a father would not give one of my children something that I felt would hurt them. Neither would our loving heavenly Father. He is all knowing and loves us too much to allow us to receive something that would cause harm to ourselves. So, no we do not receive everything that we ask for.
Mark 11:24 24 Therefore I say unto you, what things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.
If we are seeking to do the will of God, we will only want what God desires for us. When you pray remember the value of prayer is only as valuable as the faith you have to receive what you are praying for. The receiving of these things you desire requires a relationship with the Father. That relationship is the key to your prayers being answered.
Mark 11:25-26 25 And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.
26 But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.
When you pray or ask God for your desire to be manifested you must not be holding ought, or a grudge, against anyone, this passage is implying that the above promise will not be honored if we harbor unforgiveness. Forgiveness from the Lord for ourselves is predicated on our forgiveness of others.
If we don’t forgive people who offend or hurt us, God the Father will not forgive us our trespasses. Unforgiveness breaks down relationships which destroys Gods whole system of forgiveness. Jesus died for the forgiveness of all men. We have no right to hold ought against people. We are to be an example of forgiveness and love. As we forgive so also does God forgives us, and is able to answer our prayers.
Matthew 6:21 21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.
Each person determines their own character, if that be not simple and heavenward but earthward and double, all the faculties and principles of his nature will become a mass of darkness. It is impossible to have a divided allegiance with God.
We humans are made up of body, soul and spirit. the soul of a human is made up of his mind will and emotion. The mind is the thinking part of your soul. The will is what you want and your emotions are responsible for your actions.
Your will is something that you want and you can override your thinking and emotions to the point of wrong desires. If the eye be set upon treasures on earth, the life and character of the believer will be shrouded in moral darkness.
God knows that we have need of things to make life good. If we live for him, ever seeking his will, we have the guarantee of his word which states he will provide for us.
Philippians 4:19 19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
Paul is assuring the Philippians and all other believers as well that they have not impoverished themselves in giving as liberally as they can to the cause of Christ. Paul was teaching them to go ahead and support the cause of Christ. That God would supply all their need, according to his riches in glory, made possible by Christ Jesus. The measure of supply will be determined by the wealth of God in glory.
James 4:2 2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
Doesn’t this sound a lot like today’s world? People keep on lusting, and have not. Its referring to them wanting what every working person has, but to worthless to get a job and buy it. You kill and desire to have and cannot obtain. The word here, kill, refers to destroying the things of another in order to gain advantage and do so with wrong desire.
You fight and war yet you have not, because you ask not, is referring to believers who don’t seek the Lord for their desires to be manifested, but rather depend upon their own understanding and other sources that are irregular to say the least instead of seeking God’s desire for their life.
James 4:3 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
You ask and receive not because you ask for something that is not what God has planned for your life. Your lust or greed is causing you to ask for a myth.
When you have a desire be sure it lines up with the word of God, according to His will, not for your own lustful thinking. If it lines up with God’s desire for your life, He will honor your desire. Remember this whole life we are living is for God and His purpose. We are working to promote His kingdom and draw souls to Him. Our whole objective is Heaven.
Stay in the Word,
Brother Andy
