THE POWER AND AUTHORITY WITHIN US

THE POWER AND AUTHORITY WITHIN US

Not only is there power and authority, there is also dominion. In Genesis 1 we see that Adam was to have dominion on planet earth, just as God has dominion in Heaven. God was wanting to have a duplicate of heaven on Earth. God created Adam in His own likeness and let him have dominion on Earth. Dominion means supreme authority.

When Adam willfully disobeyed God and allowed an intruder, Satan, to entice him to sin with the temptation of eating of the tree that God told him not to partake of, Adam lost what was given to him by God which was dominion, ownership of the Earth. God had a plan to give man a chance to regain the dominion of the Earth. When the timing was right God sent Jesus to Earth. Jesus came not only to save mankind but also to take the crown off Satan’s head and place it once again on man’s head. Jesus operated on earth as a man, a covenant man. Not as the son of God. Jesus did not operate in his deity. He first taught his disciples to walk in dominion and delegated authority to them.

Luke 9:1-2 Then he called his twelve disciples together, and gave them power and authority over all devils, and to cure diseases. 2 And he sent them to preach the kingdom of God, and to heal the sick.

Luke 9:10 And the apostles, when they were returned, told him all that they had done. And he took them, and went aside privately into a desert place belonging to the city called Bethsaida.

This is how he taught his disciples to have dominion, using their power and authority.

Revelation 1:18 I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

When the time became right for Jesus to sacrifice himself for mankind he went willfully to the cross. He made a show of Satan and took the keys of death, hell and the grave. He took man’s crown of glory back from the devil and returned it to us.

Mark 16:16-18 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18 They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Matthew 28:18-20 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. 19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

These verses in Matthew and Mark are called the great commission. This great commission is why Jesus gave His authority to believers. Without the power of God, the authority of the believer would be useless. Jesus gave the authority; you exercise that authority in obedience and God supplies the power and the ability.

We have authority as a believer and God has the ability. God is able and willing. He is waiting for us to believe and release our authority. God wants us to exercise our authority. That is the express purpose of why Jesus gave it to us.

Jesus is the head and we are the body of Christ. We are his hands and feet and we verbalize about him and what he did for us to others. If we are faithful to do as he asks, he is faithful to keep his promises. Here is another verse that reinforces our understanding of authority.

Matthew 18:18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.

Verily here means truly, or this is the truth. This verse has a two-fold application. When we bind or loose something on earth, it is loosed or bound in heaven. When we bind or loose all of heavens power backs up our authority.

The second application of this verse is that what we bind or loose on earth is bound or loosed in the heavenlies. The heavenlies here refers to Satan’s sphere as the prince of power of the air: or to spiritual wickedness in high places. When we exercise our authority on earth, Satan’s realm must adhere to our commands. As we use our authority, we invoke the name of Jesus, for it is through him that our authority flows.

When you speak the name of Jesus you are speaking the entire bible to the devil in one word. When you say Jesus, you have said it all. In His name we can do anything. God is able, Jesus is able and his name if able. Behind the name of Jesus is the corporate structure of the power of the universe, the kingdom of God. His name is the most exalted name in the universe.

Philippians 2:9-11 9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: 10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; 11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

At the name of Jesus all of heaven stands at attention and all of hell trembles. The power of God is always there to heal, prosper and to provide when there is no other way. The power of God is always present because God is always present.

Faith moves God, faith brings things from Gods kingdom to your life. Satan will let you down, the world system will let you down. What will you do when the world system crumbles? Only faith in God’s word and his kingdom will sustain you through times of peril.

Stay safe, Stay in the Word
